No matter what the final product of granite is, more or less elaborate, it can be given a surface finish with many different looks.
The most common surface finishes used today are the following:
. |
Sawn: |
Smooth regular matt finished, with a blurred look.
. |
Sand Blasted: |
Surface treatment with carborundum grindstone which produces a smooth, matt surface. Depending on the grain size of the grindstone used, different surface roughness can be obtained, which is important to get a non-slip pavement.
. |
Polished: |
It is the most shining finish. Surface is totally flat, smooth and shiny, with the grains marked and the color slightly deep and dark.
. |
Flamed: |
Rough surface with vitreous aspect, and with a brighter shade than the sawn finish, but not so deep as the polished finish. This roughness is brought by using thermal lances which extract small dashes from the granite surface.
. |
Bush Hammered: |
Coarse finish. The bushhammer, normal or pneumatic, has different number of points inversely proportional to the desired roughness degree. |
